Romantic representation of the Battle of Himera which took place in Sicily in 480 BC It opposed the Carthaginians of Hamilcar de Giscon to the troops of Gelon, the tyrant of Syracuse. Carthage suffered a heavy defeat there, which put an end to its attempts to control Sicily for nearly 70 years. This painting was made by Giuseppe Sciuti, an Italian painter in 1873.
